Will you be there when I wake
‘Will you be there when I wake', delves into the many complex layers of childhood grief and how
these emotions transform as you age. Grief is a never-ending and universal experience that grows
from memories, sentiments, longing and loneliness. After the death of my father in childhood, I have
felt the many stages of grief first-hand. Capturing different fragments from the unacceptance of
death, anger from being left behind, a want to nurture my younger-self and then, acceptance. Whilst
creating this work, I realised I will never be able to entirely encapsulate my thoughts and feelings
within an image. Instead, I have created small moments that when combined, tell the journey of my
grief.
